FOOD SECURITY BILL

FOOD SECURITY BILL IS VERY ESSENTIAL FOR THOSE PEOPLE WHO ARE VERY POOR AND WHO ARE AFFECTED FROM NATURAL DISASTERS, EARTHQUAKE,DROUGHT,FLOOD,TSUNAMI. FOOD SECURITY MEANS AVAILABILITY OF FOOD TO ALL PEOPLE AT ALL TIME IN AFFORDABLE PRICE.IT IS ALSO VERY HELPFUL FOR LANDLESS PEOPLE,TRADITIONAL SERVICES PROVIDERS,HOMELESS, BEGGARS AND CASUAL LABORERS.THE INDIAN NATIONAL FOOD SECURITY
BILL, 2013 WAS SIGNED INTO LAW 12 SEPTEMBER 2013. THIS LAW AIMS TO PROVIDE SUBSIDIZED  FOOD GRAINS TO APPROXIMATELY TWO THIRD OF INDIA'S 1.2 BILLION PEOPLE. UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF THE BILL, BENEFICIARIES ARE TO BE ABLE TO PURCHASE 5 KG PER ELIGIBLE  PERSON PER MONTH OF CEREALS AT THE FOLLOWING PRICES:
·RICE AT INR3 (4.6¢ US) PER KG
·WHEAT AT INR2 (3.1¢ US) PER KG
·COARSE GRAINS (MILLET) AT INR1 (1.5¢ US) PER KG.
PREGNANT WOMEN, LACTATING MOTHERS, AND CERTAIN CATEGORIES OF CHILDREN ARE ELIGIBLE FOR DAILY FREE MEALS. THE BILL WAS HIGHLY CONTROVERSIAL, AND DESPITE INTRODUCTION INTO PARLIAMENT IN DECEMBER 2011 WAS PASSED ONLY IN LATE AUGUST 2013, AFTER INITIALLY BEING PROMULGATED AS A PRESIDENTIAL ORDINANCE ON JULY 5.

BUT THERE ARE ALSO SOME DISADVANTAGES OF FOOD SECURITY BILL.PEOPLE ARE GETTING FOOD IN VERY EASY WAY WITHOUT DO ANYTHING BECAUSE OF IT. SO THEY DON'T WANT TO DO WORK AND THEY ARE BECOMING LAZY DAY BY DAY AND ALSO NOT CONTRIBUTING IN GROWTH OF INDIAN ECONOMY.
