Something About Startup

According to market estimates, about half of the sellers on ecommerce firms come from these smaller cities. There are total of half a million sellers. “We see an increasing desire of sellers in smaller towns who want to scale their businesses through ecommerce. This is something they would have never got in an offline-only environment,” said Gopal Pillai, director, seller service at Amazon India. If ecommerce has to grow more merchants will have to come from smaller towns. Snapdeal gets 70% of its orders from smaller towns. Companies such as Shopclues that focus on unbranded products are seeing a rise in sellers from rural areas. However, in the next couple year, as ecommerce companies are aggressively grow their seller base, 70% sellers are expected to come from smaller towns.
