The season of exams is here and with it, stress among school children. In most cases, it is brought on by the negative attitude of parents. Rather than setting expectations of performance levels in accordance with our children's ability, we slap umpteen conditions on them. You have to be number one, your score in every subject must be more than 90%, you must leave the neighbor's son behind, and so on. We naturally expect them to keep studying day and night.
How can everyone be number one? One may not able to score above 90% in every subject as everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses. Every child is different-one may be good at sports and the other at academics. If we really want to help them, we should chalk out better ways to help them perform better instead of wasting all our energy on egging them on to do better.
